TxDOT IH-45 - From Montgomery County Line to SH 75

HVJ conducted a geotechnical investigation for the reconstruction of freeway main lanes, interchanges and frontage roads for Interstate Highway 45 (IH45) in Walker County that extended from the Montgomery County Line to north of SH 75 in Huntsville, Texas. The Project length was approximately 18.2 miles and traversed the cities of New Waverly and Huntsville. HVJ provided foundation design recommendations for bridges, mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls and a soil nail wall. The owner client, TxDOT, was concerned that the necessary geotechnical drilling would cause traffic delays. HVJ addressed the concern and successfully minimized traffic delays by optimally planning the drilling and traffic reroutes.


Grand Parkway Segments F1, F2 and G, Texas

Grand Parkway (State Highway 99) is a 180-mile circumferential highway traversing seven counties in Greater Houston Area. It is divided into 11 segments. HVJ provided the Geotechnical Support and Owner Verification construction materials testing for Segments F-1, F-2 and Segment G, 37.8 mile-long concrete roadway which connects US 290 to US 59 and carries 4-lanes of traffic. The roadway is both at-grade and elevated with more than 100 structures.

HVJ's scope of work included Project Management Oversight (PMO), Design Management Oversight (DMO), and Construction Management Oversight (CMO). As part of the GEC Team HVJ was responsible for reviewing and reporting on the Developer's engineering and design activities, as well as any technical interface issues that impact the corridor during design, construction and the initial phases of operations and maintenance. HVJ was also responsible for the Owner Verification Testing and Inspection (OVTI) services.


Cane Island Parkway from IH-10 to FM1463
Fort Bend County, Texas

This project involved Grade Separation of IH-10, roundabouts, loop connectors, ramps and the conversion of the eastbound frontage road to one way and pavement overlay. The project included approximately 3 miles of roadway and 432 LF of the Cane Island Parkway Bridge. HVJ's scope included collaboration with the Construction Engineering & Inspection (CE&I) team to ensure that in-place construction materials were in compliance with project specifications and that testing was performed in accordance with the TxDOT Quality Assurance Plan and Sampling and Testing Guide schedule. All sampling and testing activities were reported to the on-site manager. Monthly compliance reports were reviewed and corrective actions were taken as needed to address outstanding or non-compliance issues.


METRO Harrisburg Overpass
Houston, Texas

The Harrisburg Bridge is being built along the Green Line (East End), allowing cars and trains to travel over the Union Pacific East Belt freight rail line that runs north-south, west of Hughes Street. The design for the bridge combines the "History of the East End" and a "Garden Wall" and incorporates white LED lighting with blue accent lighting at the bridge columns to enhance the structure. HVJ provided Quality Control testing, soil testing and inspections; utility backfill testing and inspections; concrete testing and inspections; drilled shafts and piers testing and inspections and hot mix asphalt testing and inspections.


TxDOT IH 10 from SH 73 to Hamshire Road, (Chambers and Jefferson Counties)
Beaumont, Texas

HVJ performed a geotechnical investigation and provided foundation recommendations for the bridges and retaining walls that were part of the reconstruction of Brush Island Road and FM 1663 bridges in Jefferson and Chambers Counties, Texas. Very soft foundation soils were encountered in this area for which HVJ recommended several foundation improvement options.
