Award Announcement: 2026 Geotechnical Young Engineer of the Year, by The ASCE Texas Geo-Institute

May 7, 2026

We’re proud to share that Vikhyath Kumar Gattu, HVJ's Geotechnical Project Manager in the Houston Professional Services Department, has been named the ‘2026 Geotechnical Young Engineer of the Year’ by the American Society of Civil Engineers - Texas Geo-Institute.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society.  As ASCE explains, the honor is “In recognition of professional contribution and service to the Geotechnical Community and Civil Engineering Profession.”

Vikhyath brings more than 8 years of diverse experience in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, consulting, and project management. As a Licensed Professional Engineer, he has supported a broad range of public infrastructure improvement projects in Texas.  His project experience includes roadways, bridges, channels, reservoirs, airports, port and harbor facilities, pipelines, wastewater treatment facilities, low- to high-rise structures, residential buildings, office and warehouse buildings, and educational facilities.

At HVJ, he leads and delivers projects for public sector clients, including the  City of Houston, the Port of Houston, Harris County, the Harris County Flood Control District, the Coastal Water Authority within the Greater Houston area, and the Texas Department of Transportation, spanning across the state.

Vikhyath believes that “engineering, consulting, and project management start from paying attention to detail, careful listening, and taking ownership of the problems. Nothing great in life has ever been achieved without complete involvement and dedication. Every project, regardless of scale and scope, offers many opportunities to learn as an emerging professional. Learn, share, grow, and serve the public.”

Please join us in congratulating Vikhyath on this well-deserved recognition!
