Inside HVJ's Over-Water Investigation for the North Texas Integrated Pipline

Great infrastructure projects begin with a vision, but turning that vision into reality requires countless steps, innovation, and collaboration. In our latest case study, we take you behind the scenes of our recent work on a massive new water pipeline in North Texas. 

The Integrated Pipeline (IPL) project will be capable of delivering up to 350 million gallons of water per day to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. To make it happen, the project team needed to build a new intake and pump station. 

The twist is that it required HVJ to collect samples over open water,
from a floating barge, in the middle of winter. Geotechnical investigations over water present a unique set of challenges and require particular attention to planning, positioning, safety, and responding to an ever-changing environment. Engineers have far fewer access points and less ability to observe the ground. Despite the challenges, over-water investigations support everyday infrastructure vital to our communities, such as bridges, ports, and dams.
