Geotechnical
Engineering
Soil, rock, and groundwater conditions at every site are different. We assess the specific site conditions and design earth structures (slopes, channels, and dikes), foundations (retaining walls, bridges, buildings, tanks), and subsurface structures (clarifiers, lift stations, buried utilities, tunnels) to economically achieve the specific project objectives.

Engineering
& Testing
Construction material performance is key to the function and durability of any project. We engineer and test materials such as soil, concrete, and asphalt so you get what you pay for and the project performs as expected.

Civil/Pavement
Engineering
A successful project starts with clear understanding of the project’s specific needs. We prepared street rehabilitation PS&E, traffic control designs, pavement designs, and asset management systems based on careful understanding of design requirements.

Environmental Geology
& Engineering
Impact from hazardous waste, wetlands, faulting, and/or NEPA processes are serious concerns for project development. We identify such concerns early in project development, and provide strategies to mitigate impacts and provide the proper regulatory approval so the project can proceed on time and achieve the project goals.

We are excited to announce HVJ Associates® is part of Garver’s team that was selected to support the expansion of San Antonio's Steven M. Clouse Water Recycling Center. This center recycles treated water for industrial use and commercial landscaping; it is a key component in San Antonio having the country's largest recycled water delivery system. With a service area of almost 500 square miles, the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) provides water recycling to more than 1.2 million people in San Antonio and neighboring cities.
The presence of alluvium soils at the project site location makes our geotechnical investigation a particularly important part of this project. Subsurface conditions can vary significantly within a short distance, so a thorough analysis will allow the team to develop a cost-effective foundation system for the proposed improvements.
This project plays a significant role in the 2020 SAWS master plan by expanding capacity and improving hydraulics at the primary and secondary treatment areas, including the primary clarifiers. The updated facility is designed to meet the predicted needs for 2050 peak flows and load requirements. Utilizing recycled water more extensively will be critical for supporting San Antonio's water demands and economic growth, and we look forward to working on this impactful project!
