HVJ Associates retained for Soccer Field Improvements at Northeast Metro Park

June 14, 2021

Travis County’s Transportation and Natural Resources Department is all about the safety, mobility and quality of life for its residents, and they retained HVJ Associates® for the $8.3 Million Soccer Field Improvements Project at Northeast Metropolitan Park. The 349-acre park is a multiple-use recreational area in Pflugerville with soccer, multi-use, cricket and baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, skate park, and a BMX race track, serving a thriving suburban population in Travis County.

HVJ proudly performed geotechnical subsurface investigation and provided construction recommendations to transform four grass soccer fields into new artificial turf fields with high mast lighting. The turf and infill mix on the synthetic fields help reduce temperatures on the fields and improve drainage, allowing fields to be playable after 20 minutes of heavy rain, which has significantly increased field availability in the rapidly growing Pflugerville community.  HVJ's construction phase services included water injection monitoring, backfill compaction testing and concrete testing to ensure the overall success of this project.

HVJ reduced the County’s overall project cost by developing a quality assurance plan that resulted in fewer test holes while still meeting required levels of inspection and testing for the approval of subsurface material.
