Meet Michael Seifert,  Lab Manager HVJ South Central Texas

July 26, 2021

Seifert 2021 (003)“I’m a skills collector,” jokes Michael Seifert who recently joined HVJ as Lab Manager at the South Central Texas location “When something interests me, I work hard to develop a significant level of skill with it." This makes Mike fit right into the learning organization culture at HVJ. Some would think it’s ironic, since Seifert has “aggregated” the bulk of his skills in the service of aggregate construction materials. Before coming to HVJ, Seifert provided testing, inspection, and consultant services for various Texas road projects.

His certificates include those from the Texas Asphalt Pavement Association (TXAPA) for Plant, HMAC Field, Aggregate, and Soil Properties Specialist; and TxDOT Field, TxDOT Soils and Base Strength, and TxDOT Compressive Strength Specialist.

Since joining HVJ, Seifert has also become a member of American Concrete Institute. But what probably makes Seifert a perfect fit for HVJ’s organization are his teaching and mentoring gifts. From his time in the U.S. Army Aircraft Armament/Missile System Repair (where he conducted training on job skills, safety, and combat skills for a shop of 25 technical specialists) to his role in various companies as an “Unofficial Help Desk/Customer Support” for devices and a wide range of IT and Network Protocols, Seifert has recognized the importance of effective face-to-face communication. “I believe my greatest growth can be attributed to what I have learned about interpersonal relationships,” he notes. “The position of lab manager interacts with people at all levels, both internal and external to the company. In most laboratories, it is the hub of every operation. ”

Even with more than 20 years’ experience in all aspects of Construction Materials Testing, Seifert maintains that while “I do not have any formal education in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, my knowledge has come from great mentors and several certification programs.” Mentoring and fellowship are reasons why he appreciates HVJ: “Even though HVJ is a major player in the CoMET/Geotechnical  space, it still maintains a family-run business atmosphere.”
