Cost Estimation for a Vital Wastewater Treatment Expansion

July 27, 2022

Since our inception, HVJ Associates has made it our mission to support our communities in the ways that matter most. That’s why we are excited to announce that AECOM selected HVJ to support the City of Austin in providing cost estimation for water and wastewater engineering services as they expand the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This WWTP is essential for maintaining reliable wastewater treatment for City of Austin customers. It currently treats an average of 75 million gallons per day (MGD), and the expansion project will increase that to an average of 100 MGD and almost double the peak flow capacity from 165 to 300 MGD.

To date, HVJ has provided AECOM with construction cost estimates (Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Construction Costs, EOPCC) for the Preliminary Engineering Phase. This comprehensive information enabled the client design team to make reliable decisions about the cost options for the final design phase, necessary for project funding and selecting design alternatives. Unanticipated costs are a common reason that large projects like this are delayed or put at risk, so our role in providing accurate, detailed cost determinations was critical in this project’s on-time completion and avoiding budget overruns.

HVJ will continue to work with AECOM during the upcoming Design Phase of the project.
