$1.6 Billion Southeast Connector Project: Addressing One of Texas' Most Congested Bottlenecks

Making life safer and more efficient for everyday citizens is at the heart of civil engineering. That’s why we selected our latest case study, in which we were part of a Texas Clear Lanes project to address one of the state’s most congested bottlenecks. With a total cost of $1.6 billion – the largest investment in the history of TxDOT’s Forth Worth district – the team couldn’t afford ambiguity or mistakes.  

HVJ’s project engineers used extensive experience and sophisticated data analysis to estimate required pavement thickness values and supporting layer strength.  

Senior Project Manager/Austin Branch Manager Frank Carmichael explains, “Our approach provided a high degree of confidence and was able to show what requirements would be needed to meet a 30-year design life.”
